On Saturday 28 July, close to 30 guests attended an exciting dinner where we paired cool-climate Great Southern wines with signature Sze Chuan and Cantonese dishes from the famed Si Chuan Dou Huat restaurant at Parkroyal on Kitchener Road.

It was an evening of story-telling from experiences on the vineyard, interesting pairings, new friendships, and certainly, lots of laughters! We also had the pleasure of Executive Chef Leung Wing Chung personally presenting the dishes to us and the opportunity to share our delight and feedback directly to him.

A lot has been discussed about wine pairing. The art, science and principles behind it are reviewed and debated at length by experts and connoisseurs. I wrote about wine pairing wine Chinese New Year dishes recently as well (link: https://www.wineedens.com/single-post/2018/01/15/Chinese-New-Year-Wine-Pairing)

On Friday, 26th Jan 2018, we will be pairing several excellent, cool climate wines with Japanese omakase cuisine at the famed Chikuyotei restaurant, Intercontinental hotel. We will push the boundaries of wine pairing, testing conventions by bringing together Australian wines and authentic fine-dining Japanese dishes!

We will think on our feet - It's OMAKASE! ("trust the chef") - and let our senses lead the way. It is admittedly a challenge. We will, in all likelihood, make mistakes. But we will have fun in the process, in the company of French winemaker, Antony Paume, at this sell-out private, 10-guests event.

Whilst I find myself recuperating from Xmas and New Year's festivities and reminiscing a trip to the vineyards at the start of 2018, Chinese New Year has crept up and is just around the corner! At the time of this post, we're just 28 days away from one of the most important time of the year.

A time when extended families re-connect, in rejoice or in reluctance (just being real!), a time when we wish for and wish to others great health, prosperity and happiness, and a time when we forgive ourselves for indulging in some goodies, a disregard from New Year's resolutions just a month ago, because its Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year brings great memories for me when it comes to food and I wanted to share some with you of my favorites and the wines that would pair well with them.

2017 will be etched in my memory for a momentous reason. It is the year I started Wine Edens, sharing my passion for exceptional cool-climate wines from the Great Southern wine region with wine lovers in Singapore.

From an entrepreneurial point of view, it was a big risk. It was stepping into the unknown. It was beginning a marathon not knowing the destination and not equipped with prior training. But it was a marathon where you start simply because of your love for running and where you're fueled by the breath-taking views along the route.

Yet, we're so proud of our portfolio in which the quality of Great Southern wines speaks for itself. Its medium-bodied, cool-climate styles, underpinned by great wine-making and deep fruit quality, are impressing wine lovers. Galafrey, Poacher's Ridge, La Violetta and Rockcliffe, with their unique stories and differentiated styles, are certainly brands to watch on the scene.

Poacher's Ridge wines stand out with its unique and highly personal labels that articulate its authenticity, immense quality and limited production quantities. Many have asked me about the labels and its a joy to share the story.

Alex Taylor wrote the following piece to explain the inspiration and efforts behind the label:

"In a market where claims of being a producer of a craft product were so liberal we realised it was hard for the consumer to recognize authenticity in brands and truly craft products. We have always known what a special drop our wines were, but we decided it was time we let everyone else in on the secret a bit more.

Following our Rebranding Review, we were able to gather together all the things that we do, collectively, that really differentiate who we are and what we do and why we are different.
