Best Small Cellar-door of the West
Located west of the old town of Narrikup and in the heart of Great Southern, Poacher's Ridge was founded in 1999 by loving couple Alex and Janet Taylor as an estate that stays true to the history of its land and produces wines that best reflects its terroir. This stunning small batch producer is not to be underestimated.
The family, including sons Marcus and Andrew, places enormous dedication towards hand-tending the vines to foster varietals with deep structure and complexity, carefully hand-picking the grapes and passionately producing elegant and expressive cool climate wines.
A 5 red star estate, the wines are produced by James Halliday Winemaker of the Year 2015, Robert Diletti.
My personal encounter with Alex Taylor (picture shown) was immensely memorable. His generous hospitality, infectious pride in his wines and humility left deep impressions of his estate and the Poacher's Ridge spirit. I would strongly recommend anyone in the region to stop by for a meal and a taste of his wines.
